BRICS Content Creators Experience Kumarakom’s Backwaters and Local Culture

KUMARAKOM: Kumarakom recently welcomed an international delegation of social-media influencers and content creators from BRICS countries, giving the destination a chance to showcase its backwaters, local cuisine, and traditional way of life to audiences worldwide.

According to reports published on September 14, a 38-member group representing 19 BRICS countries arrived in Kumarakom as part of an international tourism familiarisation programme organised by the Ministry of External Affairs in cooperation with the Kerala Government.

The delegation was received at Backwater Ripples Resort, Kumarakom, with traditional honours. The visitors were introduced to Kerala's local culinary traditions and were served regional fish dishes as part of their cultural experience.

Exploring Kumarakom’s Village Life and Backwaters

The programme allowed the international content creators to experience Kumarakom beyond its popular resort tourism. Their itinerary included village experiences and canal-boat rides, letting them see the waterways, local surroundings, and traditional lifestyle of the Vembanad Lake region.

The Kumarakom visit formed part of a wider Kerala itinerary. Reports published later in the week said the creators had also travelled through Delhi, Agra, Thiruvananthapuram, Varkala and Kumarakom before reaching Kochi.

After their Kumarakom programme, the delegation continued to Kochi, where they explored Fort Kochi and experienced the Kochi Water Metro. Several creators recorded and shared aspects of their Kerala experiences through their social-media platforms, providing international exposure for the destinations they visited.

International Exposure for Kumarakom Tourism

The visit comes at a time when social media and creator-led travel content have become increasingly important channels for destination promotion. Experiences shared by international creators can introduce Kumarakom's backwaters, village tourism, food and cultural traditions to potential travellers in their respective countries.

For Kumarakom, the BRICS familiarisation programme also highlights the destination's potential to offer visitors experiences beyond conventional resort stays, particularly through backwater cruises, village tourism, local cuisine and cultural experiences.

The delegation's visit therefore provides another international platform for Kumarakom to present its distinctive backwater tourism experience to audiences outside India.
