Third Muziris Heritage Tour to Begin in Aluva on November 13

Two-day heritage journey to explore the historic sites of Muziris, Kodungallur and surrounding regions

The third edition of the Muziris Heritage Tour, organised by Roots & Roads Heritage Tours, will be held on November 13 and 14, 2026, beginning and concluding in Aluva. Unlike the previous two editions, which started from Kottayam, this year's tour has been planned to make participation easier for history and heritage enthusiasts from different parts of Kerala.

The tour will commence from North Paravur, with participants expected to reach Aluva by 11:30 am on November 13. Bus arrangements will be provided for those arriving by train at Aluva, while participants from southern districts can join the bus at Kottayam. Participants can also join the tour directly from Paravur. The group is scheduled to return to Aluva by 6:30 pm on November 14.

The two-day heritage journey will cover important historical sites, ancient places of worship, forts, a synagogue, a mosque, churches and the archaeological excavation site at Pattanam. The itinerary includes Paravur, Pattanam, Kottappuram, Kodungallur, Chendamangalam, Paliyam and other locations associated with the region's rich cultural past.

Participants will learn about the ancient port of Muziris, the historic capital of Mahodayapuram during the Perumal period, and the histories of Kodungallur, Villorvattom and Paliyam during different periods of Kerala's history. A half-hour boat ride along the Periyar River is another highlight of the programme.

Noted historian Pallikkonam Rajeev will accompany the group, sharing historical insights and explaining the significance of the sites in an engaging manner. The organisers have arranged air-conditioned bus transportation, accommodation and meals for participants.
